Heathrow then 16hrs in a 747

Most impressed with Terminal 5......fast check in and security, friendly staff; not what you normally expect these days. Met my brother Roger for a couple of beers (photo 1) Last pint of London Pride for a few weeks, then it was through departure gate and on to the big silver bird. 16hrs is a long time on a plane esp. when you decide like I did to have a window seat. Why didn't I take any notice of Fiona and get an aisle seat? ; at least you could walk about a bit. We stopped at Sao Paulo for a couple of hours so could walk about , but couldn't get off the plane.

Anyway got to Buenos Aires, coffee at the airport then fleeced by a taxi driver. Changed some dollars into pesos (third world type mickey mouse notes) I hadn't worked out the rate properly, very tired and think I ended up paying 50 quid to get to the city (about 35km) It says $20 in the guide book. Talking of third world, Edward has been told at school that they are not allowed to say third world any more, instead say "economically developing" don't you just love the PC brigade!

The hotel is the worst place I've ever stayed in apart from a DSS doss house Joe Trocki and I had to stay in when we were working up north for Warners and left it very late to find a place.

Tiny room, fifty's decor. Worst of all is the traffic noise...no double glazing. Fortunately had a pair of ear plugs in my toilet bag (always had them in case I had to share a room with Rod Warner (snoring) Anyway spent most of the rest of thursday chilling out, having a few beers and walking around the local area, and had a surprisingly long good night's sleep

It's friday afternoon now and did the full tourist bit today.

The weather was and is gorgeous....20c+ and blue skys.Photos:

2 Plaza de la Republica Obelisk( in Avenida 9 de Julio, allegedlyworld's widest road)

3 Teatro Cervantes

4 Casa Rosada (Where Eva Peron said to the crowds something about not crying, I think)

5 La Boca, which is an interesting suburb that was set up by Italian immigrants and is very colourful, cheap and home to Boca Juniors for you football fans

6 Argentinian sumo wreastlers (no, I didn't know they did that either)

7 There had to ba a RAILWAY STATION....Retiro station

Catching flight right down south tomorrow morning(saturday) to Ushuaia, Tierra Del Fuego)

and the first bit of Patagonia. Love Pete

  1. Like the piccies baby. No salsa? Hope your flight down south went ok. It was great talking to you. We're all weirdly excited for you at home. It's just so odd thinking of you all that way away. Keep up the fun baby.
